The final supermoon of 2025, the “Cold Moon,” will be visible Thursday night, Dec. 4.

A supermoon occurs when the moon’s orbit brings it closer than usual to the Earth during a full moon, making it look slightly larger and brighter than normal.

Thursday night’s moon, the third this year, will rise at 3:34 p.m. in Boston and reach its peak brightness at 6:14 p.m.

Skies are expected to be mostly clear Thursday night, according to the National Weather Service. So stargazers should have no problem seeing the moon.

The most recent supermoon was on Nov. 4, which was the largest of the year . The next will be next month, on Jan. 3.
