NORFOLK, Va. — A major federal shake-up is forcing fast action in Hampton Roads.
A policy change from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is prompting local housing providers to redesign their programs within just weeks. One of those organizations is the LGBT Life Center, which says the shift could significantly impact how federal housing dollars reach people who need them most.
HUD released its new funding notice on November 13. Julie Snell, the Housing Director at the LGBT Life Center, said it came with little warning.
"It was a huge shift in funding priorities, who can be eligible for funding, and what they can actually do with that funding," Snell said.
