WASHINGTON —

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Federal guidelines on childhood immunizations may be changing, and West Virginians are watching closely.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) postponed a decision on Hepatitis B childhood vaccinations until Friday morning.

“When we start chipping away at childhood vaccines, that makes our kids and communities less safe overall,” said Jessie Ice, co-director of West Virginia Families for Immunizations.

Some experts have questioned the quality of the data ACIP used to reach its decision, with some calling it “cherry-picked.” Ice described these allegations as “concerning” and said she fears the committee’s decision could be “not based on data, [and] not based on science.”
