CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia House Democrats on Thursday formally requested that legislative leaders convene a joint interim oversight hearing in January to examine the circumstances surrounding the deployment of National Guard members to Washington, D.C., a mission that ended in the fatal shooting of Spc. Sarah Beckstrom and the critical wounding of Air Force Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe.

Democrats said the hearing is needed to ensure future deployments are lawful, purposeful and conducted with proper safeguards.
