PORT BARRE, La. (KPLC) - One of the escaped inmates from the St. Landry Parish Jail who was involved in a standoff Thursday is dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Lafayette media outlets.
Joseph Harrington, 26, of Melville, had barricaded himself inside a home, according to St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Harrington was being held on multiple charges including home invasion and aggravated assault with a firearm, the sheriff’s office says.
Two other inmates are still on the loose, including Keith Eli, 24, and Johnathan Joseph, 24, both of Opelousas.
The men were in jail for violent crimes, according to St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz, and none should be approached by the public.
