Newport News Circuit Judge Tyneka L.D. Flythe ruled Wednesday to approve the roughly $9 million sale of the former Seaview Lofts, the condemned high-rise apartment building that has sat vacant for more than two years.

The building, located at 2 28th St., has been condemned twice since owners Seaview Apartments LLC purchased the property for $9.3 million in 2020.

Attorneys said there were several residents who were involved in both condemnations.

The approved sale agreement creates a $5 million fund from the current owners, through which former tenants can opt in to receive compensation for lost or damaged items they were unable to retrieve from the building. But the new owners, 28th St. LLC, will not be required to allow tenants back into
