NORFOLK, Va. — A federal grand jury in Norfolk declined to indict New York Attorney General Letitia James on Thursday on charges of mortgage fraud, ABC News reports.
The move comes just ten days after a federal judge dismissed the previous case against her due to the unlawful appointment of U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, Lindsey Halligan.
ABC News said federal prosecutors failed to convince a majority of grand jurors to approve charges that James misled a bank to obtain favorable terms on a home mortgage in Norfolk.
In the first case, James faced two felonies for bank fraud and false statements to a financial institution.
