Edmontonians can expect a 6.9 per cent property tax increase for 2026 after a lengthy debate about the budget at city hall this week.
Council voted 11-2 on Thursday to pass the amended operating and capital budgets, with only councillors Mike Elliott and Karen Principe voting against.
That increase is higher than the 6.4 per cent tax hike which was being floated at the start of budget deliberations, and which was the amount that was approved in the spring by the previous council.
Tax increase could rise to 6.9% as Edmonton city council funds tourism marketing, DATS, transit cleaning
Council went through four days of debate and made budget decisions that included a three per cent reduction in waste collection fees, the purchase of new buses and a boost in funding for Explore Edmonton.
