A call centre worker who created a fake persona for himself with tales of heroics as a high-ranking military officer has been cleared of sexual assault and stalking four women.

Alan McIlwraith, also known as "Captain Sir Alan McIlwraith", made headlines two decades ago after conning people with his supposed time in the military. He was also previously caught telling female students at Strathclyde University she was a millionaire charity boss - a job he supposedly juggled alongside being a fourth-year physics student, reports the Record.

At Glasgow Sheriff Court on Thursday, McIlwraith was in the dock where he was cleared of sexual assault and stalking four women after he managed to get a clerical job at Strathclyde Uni. He was given a staff post at the uni despite its student union
