A man could be locked behind bars for three years as he faces manslaughter charges for leaving his inexperienced girlfriend up a mountain for six hours, before she died

Horror images showed how a man ditched his girlfriend on Austria's biggest mountain, leaving her to die in the freezing conditions.

The woman, 33, set off to climb the 12,460ft Grossglockner mountain with her partner, 36, but she started to struggle when they were just 50 metres away from the summit. Images from webcam footage have showed the woman, from Salzburg, was then left alone for six and a half hours while the boyfriend went down to get help. These images of the mountain showed emergency lights used by the two mountaineers shining at 6pm on January 18, but that light started to weaken six hours later.
