A new national ranking of research universities has placed the University of Alberta in the top 10.

The University of Alberta has landed sixth on this year’s list of Canada’s top research universities, slipping one spot and trading places with the University of Calgary, which climbed to fifth.

The designation comes from Research Infosource , Canada’s source of R&D intelligence.

According to the report, the U of A had a sponsored research income of $573,149 in FY2024, a 7.7 per cent drop from the previous year. The U of C reported $588,483, up 7.9 per cent year over year.

The ranking considered factors like faculty headcount, graduate student enrollment and financial data from Statistics Canada.
