Dear Lucas : My friends asked me to house-sit for them while they’re away on Christmas vacation. Usually, I would be happy to help. My friends are some of those people who are way too into their plants. They give the plants special feed, play soothing music and talk to them. All of that is fine, but they want me to do all that while they’re out of town. Last time I watered their plants but didn’t do all the woo-ey, woo-ey stuff they asked for. They seemed annoyed by that. I want to be a good friend, but their requests seem beyond the pale.
Dear Reader : I’m sure good vibes make for good basil, and I’ve read that plants do have some sort of rudimentary “ intelligence .” So it’s possible the plants are somehow entertained by your friend’s rituals.
