WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) - A Watertown woman is accused of welfare fraud for allegedly receiving $16,000 in SNAP benefits to which she wasn’t entitled.

City police arrested 38-year-old on on Friday.

According to the criminal complaint, Carpenter applied for SNAP benefits, also known as food stamps, four times between 2022 and 2025.

She allegedly omitted information about deposits into her bank account and received $16,021 in SNAP benefits as a result.

Carpenter was charged with the following felony counts:

third-degree welfare fraud

first-degree offering a false instrument for filing

third-degree grand larceny

misuse of food stamps

She was arraigned on Friday in city court and released.
