The cold Erie morning with temperatures below 20 degrees didn’t stop the Times Old Newsies from their mission of collecting money for the hungry in Erie County.
Since 1939, the Times Old Newsies, has been collecting money in Erie and Erie County to help those in need . This year was no different.
"It’s meaningful because it’s a longstanding tradition," Dan Kalie, president of Times Old Newsies, said. "It was started in 1939... the poverty rate in Erie and Erie County was close to 40%. There were people struggling. That’s when members of the Erie Times said we have to do something to help the community."
