Amarillo residents had their first chance Thursday, Dec. 4, to meet the three finalists for the city’s next police chief , as each candidate introduced himself, answered audience questions and spoke with attendees during a community forum at City Hall. Before the public portion of the event began, each finalist also took questions from local media, offering additional insight into their experience and priorities.

The open house, held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Room 3400, drew about 20 people — a modest turnout for a decision that will shape the future direction of the Amarillo Police Department. City officials have emphasized community involvement throughout the search process, following months of heightened scrutiny over APD’s leadership climate and calls for greater transparency.
