AMES, Iowa —

Multiple reports Friday afternoon say Iowa State head football coach Matt Campbell is nearing a deal with Penn State.

The Athletic and several other outlets say Penn State is expected to finalize an offer for Campbell after Athletic Director Pat Kraft met with him this week in Ames.

Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports first reported that Penn State officials held an interview on Wednesday with Campbell and then flew out to meet with him Thursday night. Penn State fired coach James Franklin in October following a loss to Northwestern.
