A New York State Police investigator who resides in Putnam County is facing DWI charges after allegedly leaving the scene of a crash in Northern Westchester, authorities said.

Investigator Richard A. Miller, 51, of Putnam Valley, was arrested in connection with an incident on Thursday evening, Dec. 4, that happened in Cortlandt, New York State Police announced on Friday, Dec. 5.

According to police, troopers responded to Hudson Valley Hospital just after 8 p.m. on Friday after receiving a report of a hit-and-run that had occurred near East Main Street. Investigators then determined that a 2017 Chevrolet sedan struck the back of a vehicle stopped at a red light before fleeing south toward Crompond Road.

A witness told troopers the suspect vehicle then pulled into the parking lot at Hudson Valley Hospital.

Responding troopers eventually found the driver and identified him as Miller, who is assigned to Troop NYC. State Police said signs of intoxication were observed, and Miller was taken into custody for driving while intoxicated and brought in for processing.

There were no injuries in the crash.

Miller was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Cortlandt Town Court on Jan. 5 at 9 a.m. He was released to a third party.

State Police said the investigation is ongoing.
