CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — A Bridgeport woman has pleaded guilty to stealing public money after federal investigators say she falsified medical records to obtain disability benefits and erase more than $240,000 in student loan debt.
Christina Nolte, 52, admitted in federal court to falsifying medical information to receive disability benefits from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, according to U.S. Attorney Matthew L. Harvey. Prosecutors said Nolte then used that fraudulent disability status to have $242,528 in federal student loans discharged.
As part of her plea agreement, Nolte has agreed to forfeit assets and accept a money judgment totaling $360,466.38.
