EVANGELINE PARISH, La. (KALB) - An Evangeline Parish man was arrested on several charges after a standoff situation on December 4, according to the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office.
EPSO said agents briefly parked at the Lahaye Road and Old Highway 13 intersection when a man identified as Gerald Chapman, 60, approached. He was wearing a black cowboy hat and a black face mask with dark clothes, concealing his face. He asked the agents several times if they needed help with their vehicle, and EPSO repeatedly told him to step away.
Chapman left for a moment and returned with a rifle in his hands, hiding behind an electric pole about 24 feet away. EPSO said he “assumed a warfare fighting stance” then went back to his home on Hwy 13 and fired three shots.
