LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - U.S. Customs and Border Protection will deploy additional agents to the Laredo sector as part of a broader expansion along the southern border, Border Patrol Chief Jesse Munoz said Dec. 5.
The agency is using $46.5 billion from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act to build a “smart wall” system that includes steel bollard walls, access roads, detection technology, cameras, lighting and waterborne barriers in some areas.
Munoz said the smart wall incorporates multiple security elements beyond traditional barriers.
“So that’s part of this technology, drones, cameras, upgrading our cameras and also our communication systems,” Munoz said. “But the other thing that I think is huge is the access roads that are going to come with the wall. Because there are some areas that ar
