ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - The City of St. Louis is looking input from residents on the plans to replace the Loughborough Bridge over I-55 Friday.
Officials say the bridge upgrade will improve mobility, safety, and access for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists. It will be a single-span structure with a shared-use path and new sidewalks. The Cardondelet Trail is expected to remain open during the construction, with only brief closures for specific construction activities.
Officials say they will begin working on both projects in the fall of 2027 and done in the fall of 2029. The Loughborough Bridge was built in the 1950s and needs to be replaced to meet traffic and safety needs. It carries over 20,000 cars a day and connects residents and visitors to the park and businesses.
