ROCKY MOUNT, Va. (WDBJ) - A murder-suicide investigation is underway after a man and woman were found dead Friday, December 5, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office received a 911 call for an unresponsive individual in a vehicle near the 1400 block of Patti Road in Rocky Mount. Deputies say two people were found dead inside a Honda SUV with gunshot wounds.

55-year-old James Randolph Smith and 41-year-old Tina Marie (Brown) Spencer, both of Rocky Mount, were identified as the victims. Investigators say they knew each other.

The investigation remains ongoing pending the findings of the Medical Examiner’s Office in Roanoke.
