ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - During recent wintry weather, Roanoke County Fire & Rescue has responded to several fires, some of which began with space heaters.
“The most important things to keep in mind with space heaters is you don’t want to leave them running all night,” Community Outreach Coordinator Laura Schneider said. “It could run a risk of causing a fire or even the electrical outlet could get overloaded.”
Schneider said chimney fires have also started some house fires.
“It’s really important to make sure that those chimneys are professionally cleaned at least once a year. That’s really important because sometimes all that dust and ash could serve as fuel for a fire to get out of control.”
Another thing to remember is your HVAC system is going to be working harder to keep your family
