The central government has imposed a cap on airfares to prevent airlines from charging excessively amid the ongoing crisis caused by widespread cancellations and delays in IndiGo flights.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation said that no airline will be allowed to charge more than the prescribed limit, and the system will remain in effect until flight operations return to normal. The fare cap will not apply to business class.

As per the new rules, the maximum fare for travel up to 500 km has been fixed at ₹7,500.
For routes between 500 and 1,000 km, the upper limit is ₹12,000, while the highest cap has been set at ₹18,000 for long-distance routes.
