MINOT — It may seem odd to call this election cycle a particularly consequential one for North Dakota given how slim the pickings will be at the top of the ballot.
Neither of our U.S. Senators will be up for re-election. Sen. John Hoeven, last re-elected in 2022, doesn't see his term expire until 2028. Sen. Kevin Cramer, just re-elected last year, won't be up again until 2030. There's no gubernatorial race, either, with Gov. Kelly Armstrong just completing the first year of his four-year term.
It's just U.S. Rep. Julie Fedorchak at the top of the ballot, and with all due respect to our Democratic friends, and Republican challenger Alex Balazs who has told me he's running again, I think it's safe to conclude, even at this early point in the cycle, that she isn't likely to face much comp
