Itanagar: The Indian Army created history by successfully scaling Mt Kangto (7,042 m), the highest peak in Arunachal Pradesh. Known for its technical challenges, the peak had remained unconquered till now.

The team of mountaineers was formally ‘Flagged In’ by Lt Gen R C Tiwari, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Command. He commended the climbers for their extraordinary courage, professionalism and perseverance. ADVERTISEMENT

The expedition was flagged-off on November 3, 2025 from a forward base by the General Officer Commanding, Gajraj Corps. The 18-member team then undertook a grueling expedition across rugged Himalayan terrain, braving extremely rarefied air, harsh sub-zero conditions, treacherous icy ridgelines, deep crevasses, and near-vertical ice walls.
