A man is dead after an “officer-involved” shooting at Danforth GO station early Saturday morning, Toronto police said.

Officers responded to reports of a person with a gun at the station, in the area of Main Street and Stephenson Avenue , just after 1 a.m., police said in a post on social media.

At the station, they found a man who was holding a gun, police said.

The man was shot and then taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, officials said.

The Special Investigations Unit, Ontario’s police watchdog, has invoked its mandate and will investigate the incident, police said.

The watchdog said it was investigating a “fatal police-involved shooting at Danforth GO Station,” in a post on social media around 9:30 a.m.

Toronto police confirmed to the Star that the man died.
