The Food Museum in Stowmarket has been named the UK’s official hub for preserving food-related living heritage.

It forms part of a nationwide effort to protect culinary traditions as the country moves towards ratifying the Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage – an international agreement aimed at recording and supporting traditions passed down through generations.

As the national hub for food-related living heritage, the museum will help communities recognise and safeguard practices such as regional recipes, distinctive cooking techniques, seasonal customs and local food celebrations.
