The Saybrook breakwater in the mouth of the Connecticut River is set to be lit this weekend.

There have been various crashes over the years and it was the site of a Labor Day boat crash in 2024 that killed three young men and injured 6 others.

“We wanted to make sure everyone get home safely again and that was the big push,” said Jessica Britagna, the mother of one of the victims.

A full 15 months following the crash, the structure is finally set to be lit.

“It’s in the name of three boys that passed away, and it shows that everybody cares,” Britagna said.
