The baby was still being mauled by a pack of pitbulls when police arrived at the property in Tullahoma, Tennessee, but officers could not save her

A three-month-old baby and her grandad appear to have been mauled to death by the family’s pitbulls.

The body of James Alexander Smith, 50, was found by police inside the property in Tullahoma, Tennessee , while the infant was still being attacked by the seven dogs and also tragically died.

Police are understood to have shot the dogs in order to get to the victims, but they were not able to rescue the baby in time following the incident on December 3. An investigation has now been launched into what happened and to establish whether the victims were killed by the dogs or were already dead.
