LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - The Ronald McDonald House has partnered with the Texas Tech Red Raiders for more than twenty years. Every time an opposing player is sacked, more money is raised for the RMDH Charities of the Southwest. Needless to say, this has been the charity’s most-profitable football season.
“This year has been amazing because we are up to 37 sacks!,” said Traci Cheek, director of development for Lubbock’s RMDH chapter. “Obviously, if you pledged, you’re like, ‘Woo, go Tech!’ We love Tech. That’s why we do this.”
While Texas Tech’s head football coach Joey McGuire goes over the game plan every Tuesday, that’s when he also goes out of his way to show the players the updated sack count- proudly displayed on Power Point. It’s also an unexpected notion the charity appreciates.
