The National Park Service’s updated 2026 “patriotic fee-free days” list has ignited a storm online after it removed Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Juneteenth from its free-admission calendar, while adding June 14 — President Donald Trump’s birthday and Flag Day.

The decision has drawn sharp criticism across social media, with many questioning why two major holidays tied to Black history were dropped.

White House hits back

Amid the backlash, the White House sharply responded to New York Times correspondent Peter Baker after he highlighted the change on X. Baker wrote that Trump’s administration added free admission for Trump’s birthday while removing free entry for MLK Day and Juneteenth.
