Antonio Brown is in court for a second-degree attempted murder charge, which occurred in May following a celebrity boxing match in Miami. This past week, the former All-Pro wideout filed a motion under Florida's "Stand Your Ground" law, hoping for a dismissal.
Brown, 37, was livestreamed pulling out a firearm during an incident with fellow content creators following the boxing event. After the footage began circulating online immediately following the ruckus, Brown fled to Dubai, where he stayed for six months. After returning to the United States last month, he pleaded not guilty after being taken into custody.
Brown's legal team states that he was provoked and forced to defend himself amid the chaos outside the boxing venue. Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, the man who accused Brown, and his team defended themselves by stating that the move for dismissal is a "farcical reimagining" of the events that occurred.
During the incident, Brown's team states that he was attempting to get to his car for safety after Nantambu ambushed him. This is the opposite of what the police reported, however, as they said that Brown was the aggressor who attacked Nantambu first before continuing the assault with two others.
Brown's motion alleges that while he did have a gun and shot, the former Steelers wide receiver "reasonably feared" that Nantambu was carrying a firearm during their scuffle.
If convicted, Brown faces up to 30 years in prison.
