STOCKTON, Calif. — Families are grieving after a birthday celebration in Stockton on Saturday turned into a mass shooting that left four people dead and 13 others hurt.

The gathering, held to celebrate a 2-year-old’s birthday, turned tragic after gunfire erupted.

San Joaquin County officials haven't released the names of the victims at this time, but some families have come forward and identified them. Here's what we know about the four people who died.

Amari Peterson, 14

The family of 14-year-old Amari Peterson says he was among those killed. His father, Patrick Peterson, said the celebration was meant to be a joyful family gathering and that he cannot comprehend how it ended in gunfire.
