PHOENIX — A man is dead after he was hit by a train in Avondale on Friday afternoon, authorities said.
According to the Avondale Police Department, officers responded to reports of a person being struck by train near Dysart Road and Main Street around 3:30 p.m.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the man was just east of the intersection when he crossed the train tracks in front of a Union Pacific Railroad train and was hit. Police noted that it was a single-train engine and had no train cars.
Officers provided the man with first aid before he was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
