7:45 A.M. UPDATE: According to Superior Mayor Jim Paine, the suspect is now in custody.

Paine says the injured officer is in good condition and will hopefully be leaving the hospital very soon.

“I’m grateful for the quick response of the many agencies that responded and tremendous valor of the officer that was first on scene,” said Paine.

SUPERIOR, Wis. (Northern News Now) - A Superior Police officer is in the hospital after being shot during what police are calling an “active incident” Sunday morning.

It happened early Sunday morning in the area of North 37th Street and Tower Avenue and the Superior Middle School.

Superior Police say that’s where an officer was shot and taken to Essentia in Duluth where they’re reportedly in stable condition.
