Jennifer Lower Carter and William Carter had a storybook romance — a whirlwind love — and a life together that was only just beginning when their tale turned into a tragedy on an Oregon highway last month.
The newlyweds were traveling back from their wedding reception in eastern Idaho when their SUV slammed into a semitruck sprawled across both lanes of U.S. 20 east of Bend.
It was 9:30 p.m. on Nov. 24. The couple, who everyone called Jenny and Billy , had been married 16 days.
“There’s never been a happier marriage on the planet,” Dennis Carter, father of the groom, said in an interview Friday. “They never had to spend one minute apart.”
A police officer told him and his wife that the crash, in the dark of night, had been unavoidable.
