Reporter Samantha Swindler received a tough assignment a few weeks ago:

The Oregonian would be celebrating its 175 th anniversary . Could she write the front-page story commemorating that major milestone?

“I was both excited and a little bit nervous because that’s a lot of pressure for one person,” she said. “For the last anniversary, we had a whole team that wrote a whole special section.”

Indeed, when we celebrated our 150 th in 2000, about a dozen people worked on a three-part special section with many stories, photos and historical tidbits from over the years. But we’ve seen a lot of change over that period as an industry and in our newsroom.
