SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - Dozens of people lining the front of the State Attorney’s office in support of a Suncoast family after their 22-year-old son was shot and killed in 2022.

22-year-old Steven Paul Colon was killed at the intersection of Highland Road and Westview Drive in Osprey on Saturday, September 24 th , 2022.

Colon’s killing was deemed justified by the ‘Stand Your Ground’ law, according to Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office detectives’ records.

Now three years later, his parents, Steven Sr. and Paola Colon, are begging law enforcement to continue investigating his death.

The family says they received crucial new forensic evidence in the case and are hoping the State Attorney will continue to investigate.
