ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Powder Springs police said Saturday that a man shot and killed his mother and stepfather at a Powder Springs home.

Officers were called to the house in the 5300 block of Yoshino Terrace about 12:30 p.m., where they found the two victims, 72-year-old Monica Brookins and 73-year-old John Wells, with gunshot wounds. Both were taken to the hospital, where they later died.

“It’s very quiet over here, very quiet,” Cerla Long, who lives in the neighborhood, said. “You hardly ever see people outside, even kids.”

Police said 31-year-old Martin Duberry was arrested at the scene. Investigators believe the shooting was domestic and that the man shot his biological mother and his stepfather.
