The 2025 College Football Playoff bracket is here and as controversial as ever, as Notre Dame missed the cut while Alabama and longtime rival Miami did.

Indiana earned the No. 1 seed and a bye as expected after stunning Ohio State in Saturday's Big Ten title game. The Hoosiers will play either Alabama or Oklahoma in the quarterfinals.

Here's a look at the rest of the field:

  1. Indiana
  2. Ohio State
  3. Georgia
  4. Texas Tech
  5. Oregon
  6. Ole Miss
  7. Texas A&M
  8. Oklahoma
  9. Alabama
  10. Miami (Fla.)
  11. Tulane
  12. James Madison

Things obviously didn't shake out Notre Dame's way, and we'll get into why as the Fighting Irish are among the winners and losers of the 2025 CFP bracket reveal.

Winners

Miami (Fla.): Mario Cristobal's Hurricanes are in despite having lost to unranked conference foes SMU and Louisville this season. It was a surprising inclusion considering Miami was a spot behind Notre Dame in the latest AP poll and neither played this weekend. Still, Miami beat Notre Dame 27-24 in the season opener, and that head-to-head win made all the difference in the committee's eyes.

Alabama: The Crimson Tide got smoked by Georgia in the SEC title game, but it didn't matter. Alabama made it anyway, while BYU -- another two-loss team that lost its conference championship -- missed the cut. The committee may say Alabama passed the "eye test," but it's hard to ignore the potential SEC bias, especially considering the Crimson Tide also lost to 5-7 Florida State in the season opener.

Losers

Notre Dame: The Fighting Irish were a -1000 betting favorite to make the CFP minutes before the reveal, so to say their exclusion was a surprise would be an understatement. Marcus Freeman's squad has reeled off 10 consecutive wins with its only losses coming to playoff teams Miami and Texas A&M. Their total margin of defeat in those defeats: four points. It's time for Notre Dame to seriously consider joining a conference because not competing for a conference title was a big reason why they missed out.

BYU: The Cougars largely have Texas Tech to blame for missing the CFP. The Red Raiders accounted for BYU's only two losses this season, including a 34-7 drubbing in the Big 12 title game. While that wasn't the greatest final impression for voters, BYU took care of business against everyone else on its schedule, something Alabama can't say after its Florida State loss.
