Manish Tewari informed about this by posting on social media platform X on Sunday (December 7)
Congress MP Manish Tewari has introduced a private member’s bill in the Lok Sabha seeking to reduce the binding effect of whips on MPs to ensure greater independence in lawmaking.
The bill proposes that lawmakers should have the freedom to vote according to their conscience and public interest, even if it means deviating from the party line.
Tewari, who brought the non-government bill to amend the anti-defection law on Friday, said the change is necessary to empower MPs to make decisions based on the voice of the people rather than party orders.
He shared details of the bill on X on Sunday, saying its intent is to enable good lawmaking and ensure the independent opinion of MPs in a democracy"
