KALKASKA COUNTY — Whitewater Township Fire crews rushed into Kalkaska County after reports of several people falling through the ice.
Dispatchers requested teams trained in cold-water rescue, and Whitewater Township sent a four-person crew to assist.
Agencies from Kalkaska and Antrim counties joined to help.
Authorities said the incident is a sharp reminder about dangerous ice conditions.
Departments across northern Michigan are stressing that no ice is safe ice, especially near inlets, outlets, and moving water.
They’re urging people to stay off the ice entirely and keep children and pets away from shorelines.
The number of people that fell through the water or possible injuries has not been released.
