BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - The last execution in Vermont happened on this day in history.
Convicted killer Donald Deming was put to death in the state’s electric chair on December 8, 1954.
Demag was given the death penalty after he escaped from prison and killed for a second time.
He was the last of 2 dozen people executed in Vermont over the years.
The state officially abolished the death penalty in 1972.
