EDMOND − Maybe it was because Edmond was too small and too close to "mighty pretty" Oklahoma City to get a mention in Bobby Troup's endearing 1946 pop song with the enduring line "Get your kicks on Route 66."

Edmond plans to make up for missing out then with the Route 66 Centennial Celebration next year, and recently kicked off festivities at KickingBird Event Center by promoting a new book by local enthusiasts. Promoters also gave a sneak preview of a Route 66 documentary in progress.
