A major carrier has begun flights from Scotland to one of the world's top skiing destinations.

EasyJet has launched its first direct service from Edinburgh Airport to Innsbruck, the heart of the Austrian Alps.

The inaugural flight took off yesterday morning and will now operate every Sunday, giving Scottish travellers a convenient link to one of Europe’s most popular winter sports hubs.

While Innsbruck is best known for its proximity to world-class ski resorts, the city itself offers plenty for visitors beyond the slopes.

Its historic old town boasts cobbled streets, colourful facades and bustling cafés, with landmarks including the Golden Roof, the Imperial Palace, and the world-famous Swarovski Crystal Worlds.
