TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - The death of an unhoused Toledo man out in the frigid temperatures has struck a chord with the community, and now his sister is speaking out.

Like the rest of the community, Trish Kwapich is also looking for answers. She says her brother, Rick Kwapich, was experiencing homelessness but had places he would stay.

Still trying to make sense of her brother’s death, she wanted to share his story in hopes of creating change.

“Open people’s eyes that this is a problem here and it just doesn’t have to be, not in Toledo,” Trish said.

13 Action News spoke to Trish before a memorial service for Rick at St. Paul’s United Methodist in Toledo.
