NEW KENT — A committee wants to challenge the negative perception of trailer parks in the hopes that manufactured homes could form a solution to the lack of affordable housing.

New Kent County’s Housing Advisory Committee has recommended the revitalization of modular home parks and a new state-of-the-art community to create more affordable homes. The committee is also calling for the creation of a trust fund to help workers become homeowners.

The Board of Supervisors created the committee in 2023 to tackle issues including homelessness, unsafe dwellings and affordable housing in New Kent. It presented four recommendations for action to the board on Nov. 24.
