John Swinney has described protests outside hotels being used to temporarily house asylum seekers as "appalling".
The First Minister launched a strong defence of his pro-migration stance when he addressed an audience of journalists and SNP members in Glasgow today.
He insisted "we need people to come to Scotland to boost our working age population" and pledged to "stand firm" against the rise of Nigel Farage's Reform UK party.
It comes after a series of protests outside the Cladhan Hotel in Falkirk which has been used to house people seeking asylum. The UK Labour Government has said it will end the policy of using hotels for such purposes and is currently preparing an army barracks in Inverness to be used as an alternative.
