RUKA - Canadian freestyle skier Julien Viel won bronze in men’s competition Monday at the opening stop of World Cup moguls season.
Viel, from Mont-Sainte-Anne, Que., scored 79.30 in the second men’s event to claim the fourth World Cup medal of his career.
Australia’s Matt Graham won with 81.72 points, followed by Japan’s Ikuma Horishima with 80.58.
Star skier Mikael Kingsbury of Deux-Montagnes, Que., did not compete Monday. He pulled out of Sunday’s men’s event before the small final.
Kingsbury, who has 99 career World Cup wins, said at a press conference before the event that he has been dealing with a groin injury.
Jakara Anthony completed an Australian sweep Monday, winning the women’s event with a score of 79.89. She was followed by Americans Olivia Giaccio (78.64) and Jaelin Kauf
